Kinki Trip - Ise

Sunday, May 28th

Ameterasu, the sun goddess and main god of the Shinto religion, is enshrined at the shrine at Ise. The emperors of Japan are directly descended from her royal hotness, and ceremonies on their behalf are held at the Ise shrines every year. Only the imperial family and some priests can go inside the main shrine, so the rest of us mere mortals must be content with long distance shots. You can easily google Ameterasu and get more information than I can give, so go do that. Regardless, Ise is a nice town and they make akafuku, a delicious mochi + red bean dessert that's famous all over Japan.
