The sports festival is an interesting concept. Basically, the elementary school kids run around in weird relays and play weird games (throw balls in baskets, obstacle courses, tug-o-war, drag the tires back to your side, races with parents and siblings), etc. I participated in the ball toss, where I could actually dunk the balls so I helped the loosing team catch up. Yay me for being tall! Everyone in the audience got a kick out of it anyway.
I also scarfed a bento the school gave me and then a bunch of yakiniku that some parents gave me that was really excellent.
All-in-all, a very fun relaxing day. Not relaxing for the kids, though. They had all sorts of random dances, a cheering portion, bizarro radio stretches (that every school in Japan does), etc.
