Lake Motosu (Motosuko)

View of Motosuko and an early riser in his boat from the shore near our camp.

This was a Yamanashi JET party experience, but it was still pretty fun. Mostly, again, because I have fun talking with people in English! And Chris and Marisa and Meriel are a lot of fun. The 3 of them, plus the Yamanashi English Teachers President Fred picked me up in Hayakawa around 7:00, and we got to Lake Motosuko around 8:30. Once there, I spent the next couple hours getting a real fire going (like, wood fire with a flat metal grill over it) and cooking us dinner. The girls ate food like they'd never seen it before, while Chris spent the entire time flirting with random Japanese girls who had shown up.

The food was pretty good.... lots of meat. Meriel and Marisa had picked it out... Chicken, beef marinated in some random sauce, and sausages. I could have used some rice, but that's hard to get when there's no electricity. We drink a little, but not very much. Maybe 1 beer? There were plenty of people who got trashed, though. We also spent a couple hours sitting on the beach and chatting with people. Like Rudy and Fred....

The campsite was an odd little place just off the lake. There were bungaloes to sleep in, but it turned out later that they were absolutely disgusting and we were sure they were lice-infested. The futons they gave us were wet, the floors were wet, the pillows were stained. Icky! Chris drank too much and crashed for 2 hours, Meriel was wiped and crashed for 2 hours, but Marisa and I were grossed up and stayed up sitting on towels we had brought while they slept. Basically, no sleep. More amusing stories, some fun roasting marshmellows and looking at the stars from the beach lake. I didn't bother taking pictures because it was pitch black, and in the morning when we left the campsite was trashed and looked terrible. Got some great pictures of the lake on the way back, though! In english the location would be "Lake Motosu", but they seem to add "ko" to the end, so "Motosuko" actually means "Lake Motosu."
